It is a normal thing to feel down or on edge with our own thoughts. Most of the time, we need things that relate to how we are feeling in any moment to get rid of overbearing thoughts and emotions. It was difficult for me to compile, but here are ten of my personal favourites that help me cope with the old blues.
Billie Eilish Feat. Khalid
This is a song that snagged my heart from the first day I listened to it. It was a recommendation by an online friend and has always been a companion when I get the ‘blues’. Keeping the lyrics true, it was quite easy to relate to the lyrics that are always slowly sinking into your mind.
Natalie Merchant’s voice is so beautiful that I can’t stop myself from keeping the song on repeat until I fall asleep. Listening to the lyrics of this song keeps me at peace when I’m down.
Dean Lewis’ 2017 release has been a go-to for me when I’m not in a good mood. The lyrics are a reminder that life “comes and goes in waves.”
Lana Del Rey
As usual, Lana Del Rey stands out and this time in “Dark Paradise”. Lana’s enchanting voice carefully weaves around the lyrics. I feel relaxed listening to this subtle and calming music.
So Far Away
Martin Garrix Ft. David Guetta
This song comes back to mend the darkness and reassure me that there is light even in the knotted feelings.
when the party’s over
No surprise here as Billie Eilish makes her way once again onto this list. Billie’s vocals and the slow beats capture me. Hostage, if I may add. “And I could lie, say I like it like that…” my favourite line.
Whenever I feel all on the dark side, I go back to this song. We all have feelings and I love the way the song vocalises the feeling of trying to stand strong even when you are hurt. It’s soothing rhythm is one of the reasons why it has never left my list.
Little Big Town
Ah…the sound of this sound brings refreshment to my mind and has many times put me to bed amidst the sleepless nights and restless thoughts.
I’ll never forget the first time I came across this song; a troubled and broken soul looking for a way to find peace amid a chaotic mind. I found home in the song.
The reality of life never played far away from the lyrics of this song by the late singer, Juice Wrld. What got me intrigued by the song was its constant reminder that there was much more to life than brooding.
