On Jx Julianne: A Journey Through Writing

James’s Word

March 29, 2020

Jx Julianne is a self-published poet who has a great presence on Instagram. Her anthology “Fragments” is a great read that has an even greater audience.

James: When and why did you start writing?

Jx Julianne: I have written throughout my entire life. As a child, I 2loved to write songs and short stories. I’ve been seriously writing poetry exclusively for a few years now.

James: What inspires you to write?

Jx Julianne: Emotions and experiences are my biggest inspirations, not only mine but others as well.

James: How do you stay motivated to write?

Jx Julianne: I often struggle with staying motivated. Something that seems to really help me is spending time in nature and finding quiet time to solely focus on my writing. With life/career/family it’s easy to put writing on the back burner, but it is not something I want to push to the back.

James: How often do you write? And how do you find the time?

Jx Julianne: It varies but I try to write something daily, even if it’s just an unfinished thought that I finish later. Often concepts/ideas pop into my head and I try to write it or record it somehow immediately so I do not forget. Sometimes I even am inspired while driving and send a voice message to someone just so I don’t lose the thought.

James: Does your family support your writing?

Jx Julianne: My family likes that I enjoy writing, but it is not something they really think much about or take very seriously.

James: What is the most crucial part when writing a book?

Jx Julianne: Publishing a book is difficult and takes time. There were many days I wanted to give up, but kept telling myself when it was done it would be worth it. I think not giving up is the most crucial part to writing/publishing a book. There are so many days the stress/difficulty of it makes you lose sight of your initial dream and inspirations. It’s important to take a step back sometimes and remember the big picture and why you are doing this in the first place. Take your time, make it the body of work you want to create, don’t settle for anything less, and never give up!

James: What does the process of publishing a book like?

Jx Julianne: It is SO MUCH WORK, but so worth it. It takes a lot of time, editing, and attention to the smallest details. It took me years to finalize everything and feel like it was complete and ready to be released.

James: In your opinion, What is your debut book’s best scene?

Jx Julianne: Personally I am most proud of the poem titled “Fragments” and its accompanying photograph. This is the poem in the book that truly embodies the whole work (which is why it shares a name with the title of the book) and it was one of those writing moments when the words just flowed on the paper and those moments for me, always produce the best poetry.

James: Can you share one editing tip?

Jx Julianne: Never copy and paste images into a word document, always insert the image. Also proofread, proofread, proofread!

James: What is your main writing goal?

Jx Julianne: I would love to eventually make a career out of writing, but honestly just being able to write and share my art is fulfilling enough for me. It is nice to just share my words and have others resonate with them. That is my favorite part.
