Taylor Swift SWIFTS My Heart Away (Folklore Review)

Twinkle’s Lane

(This article is written with purposeful punctuation mistakes to appeal to the folklore album. Enjoy!)

Random album review on Folklore

imagine the excitement i felt when i saw a sudden instagram post from taylor swift announcing that she would drop her new album that midnight! relatable much? as a die-hard taylor swift fan, i was definitely over the moon.

folklore explores a more ethereal and “folk”-y side of taylor swift’s music and is different from the more pop-style music that we’ve seen from her in the past.

if i had to describe folklore through a picture, i would go for one which was very aesthetic and showed emotions clearly, in intricate yet prominent details. it would also surely have a “vintage” and soft side to it.

with fifteen solos and one collaboration with Bon Iver, each of the songs in folklore is definitely an arrow to the heart. soft and emotional music, and her voice bordering on husky and powerful in many parts, i would definitely recommend folklore to anyone who likes music that brings out true emotions.

seriously, flowing and touching vocals, definitely. just move your hands like the waves of a clear river when she sings, and close your eyes, and enjoy the music. maybe shed a tear or two, and smile a little.

here are some of my favourite lines from the sixteen songs on folklore, each of which tells a story full of emotions and believe me, i am already listening to these on loop –

the 1 :

“and if you never bleed, you’re never gonna grow

and it’s alright now”

cardigan :

“when you are young, they assume you know nothing”

“and when i felt like i was an old cardigan under someone’s bed

you put me on and said i was your favourite”

the last great american dynasty :

choosing prominent lyric in this song is definitely hard as it is a song full of metaphors and meaningful lines, and of course tribunal mentions to many american people and places.

“she had a marvelous time ruining everything… I had a marvellous time ruining everything”

exile (feat. Bon Iver) :

(definitely one of the top songs in the album and a must-hear)

“you were my town, now i’m in exile, seein’ you out

i think i’ve seen this film before”

my tears ricochet :

(the beginning of this song honestly sent chills through my spine, and the rest did not disappoint. okay, let me go cry for a minute now)

“even on my worst day, did i deserve, babe

all the hell you gave me?”

mirrorball :

“i’ll show you every version of yourself tonight

i’ll get you out on the floor

shimmering beautiful

and when i break, it’s in a million pieces”

seven :

“though I can’t recall your face

I still got love for you”

august :

“but i can see you lost in the memory

august slipped away into a moment of time”

this is me trying :

(cue relatable?)

“i have a lot of regrets about that

i was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere

fell behind all my classmates and i ended up here”

illicit affairs :

“it’s born from just one single glance

but it dies and it dies and it dies

… a million little times

invisible string :

“time, curious time

gave me no compass”

“time, mystical time

cutting me open, then healing me fine”

mad woman :

“what did you think i’d say

does a scorpion sting when fighting back?

they strike to kill and you know i will”

epiphany :

“only twenty minutes to sleep

but you dream of some epiphany

just one single glimpse of relief

to make some sense of what you’ve seen”

betty :

(making mistakes once, telling you it was just a summer thing, and then it happens again, but i didn’t mean it… yep, another example of how we make mistakes and tell ourselves it won’t happen again. and then it does. one mistake turns into hundred, even while we keep saying it won’t happen again)

“i was walking home on broken cobblestones

just thinking of you when she pulled up like

a figment of my worst intentions…

those days turned into nights…”

peace :

“but i’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm

if you cascade, ocean wave blues come

all these people think love’s for show

but i would die for you… in secret”

hoax :

“stood on the cliffside screaming, ‘give me a reason’

your faithless love’s the only hoax i believe in

don’t want no other shade of blue but you

no other sadness in the world would do”

if that didn’t give you an example of what potential our taylor swift’s latest album has, i will… well, i am sure it has, though, so nevermind.

tell us your thoughts of the album! i look forward to hearing them.

thank you.

And now I shall return to my original writing style and save my auto-correct from a nightmare ~

Until we meet the next time, have a great day!
