The Catalyst of the UK

James’s Word

February 23, 2020

Up-and-coming student band, The Catalyst, come from Bury, Manchester, UK. They debuted their first ever EP called Registry in October of 2019 which is currently out now!

James: Where did you guys meet?

The Catalyst: We met through a project called Rockit about 2 years ago that brings together young musicians and offers a setting for rehearsal and more. Seb joined the band just over a year ago.

James: Why did you guys start creating music?

The Catalyst: All of our members (Ryan, George, Seb and Elias) have a shared passion for music and the impact it has on people so we just love being a part of the current music scene and having our own impact.

James: What music do you like listening to?

The Catalyst: Our music tastes differ but here are some artists that we enjoy listening to: The Strokes, Mac Demarco, Fontaines DC, Tame Impala, Kings of Leon.

James: What are your favourite books?

The Catalyst: 1984, The Lord of the Rings, Catch 22

James: What’s the best thing about being in your band?

The Catalyst: We always have a good laugh even when things go wrong and we’re all just great mates.

James: What’s your go-to-meal before a show? What’s the “pre-gig” routine?

The Catalyst: We usually just make loads of last-minute changes to the setlist but Ryan doesn’t like to eat before he sings

James: What hobbies other than music do you pursue?

The Catalyst: Music is more than a hobby for us but we also like partying and graphic designing.

James: Do your parents support your decision to make music?

The Catalyst: We owe a lot to our parents for supporting us as a band as well as individually (and helping us carry drums, amps etc haha).

James: What would you do if you weren’t in the band?

The Catalyst: Watch a lot of Netflix, lie in bed, listen to vinyl, mind you we do that anyway.

James: Where do you see your band in 10 years?

The Catalyst: The Catalyst have big plans for the 20’s which involve lots of new music, we’re playing kendal calling this year so we’re very excited for that and in 2030 we expect to have a lot more to look back on. #glastonbury2030
